You’re So Lucky ~ How to Create Good Fortune

I cross my fingers and inwardly wish my granddaughter good luck as she backs her mom’s car out of the driveway. She recently got her learner’s permit and is enjoying her newfound skill behind the wheel. Better that, than worry over the myriad ways accidents can happen. Recently, I found out that the gesture of crossing one’s fingers is more than a sign of hope ~ it is also a powerful mudra!

According to the Oxford dictionary, a mudra is a symbolic gesture used in Hindu and Buddhist ceremonies, and in Indian dance. Mudras are powerful because the position of the hands and fingers has the ability to influence the energy of our physical, emotional, and spiritual body. In Yogic and Ayurveda traditions it is known that mudras help link the brain to the body to help soothe pain, stimulate endorphins, change our mood, and increase our vitality.

Recently, I was told that crossing the middle finger over the index finger was a mudra that can help undo duality. Wow! Now if I have the urge to use my middle finger only when someone cuts me off in traffic, I’ll use the good luck symbol instead! I’m sure it will make me laugh, and I’ll feel good by sending someone some positive energy.

As we head toward leprechaun season, let’s not try to catch this mischievous creature to show us where the pot of gold is at the end of the rainbow, but instead create our own good fortune by spreading only compassionate energy. Anger has become a normalized part of our human response to unwanted circumstances, but it is not our true nature. However, it does take willingness to see and act differently in order to dissipate heavy angry energy. We can use the cross-fingered mudra to set our intention to undo our egoic thoughts and transform ourselves into vessels of peace and love.

Maybe it would help to view our hearts as emerald four-leaf clovers. The heart has four chambers that allow our blood to flow in synchronicity with our emotions. May our loving hearts reach out to others with only peaceful intentions no matter how unconscious someone seems to be behaving. Together we will create the luck that saves humanity and all of life. Cross your fingers now and wish everyone on the planet good fortune. I bet we will find that this is the true golden power of unity consciousness that is discovered at the end of the rainbow!

Have a Happy St Patrick’s Day you lucky person!
