She walks barefoot in the emerald grass as her long, curly hair and filmy, white gown billow in the fierce wind. Lightning bolts are cast into the sea. She raises her arms to the heavens calling out to be saved. Her heart pounds as thunderous hooves shake the ground. He swoops her up onto his steed with one massive arm and then points his sword skyward protecting her from all threats. All she need do is lean back onto his chest and let herself be enfolded in arms so strong that nothing will ever harm her again. If only . . .
The new fairytales show women giving birth to dragons. They ride into stormy skies with their own swords drawn and let their fire-breathing off-spring burn down anything that stands in their way. The women are depicted to have become as ruthless as men in their quest for power. I find these warrior women a bit absurd and admit to preferring the older fantasies. But, in lieu of my knight in shining armor arriving to sweep me off my feet, I’ve come to value both the masculine and feminine attributes working in harmony to create a life of well-being and protection.
That’s why I am fascinated by the image I saw on the day of the total solar eclipse last April. The sky turned black as I lay in the grass gazing up into the stunning image of the moon passing in front of the sun. A dragon appeared on the bottom and seemed to be supporting the celestial bodies, indicating the power of the masculine to carry us forward. A mermaid image wrapped her body around the top of the sun and moon, ensuring an all-encompassing life view while holding us in a loving embrace. The truth was being shown to us ~ both energetic forms have great value and can accomplish much when creating together!
Though I’ll probably always want a guy to show-up on a horse, I know it is important for women and men to honor both their inner feminine (intuitive/feeling) qualities and their inner masculine (take action/logical) traits to provide balance, sustenance and protection come what may in this unsettled world (whether we have an actual partner or not).
No swords are needed, as in truth, it is the power of the masculine and feminine working together and honoring each other’s contributions, that brings in unity, peace, and ultimately fortification for our world.
