Fire and flood, violence and greed, and the occasional good Samaritan are what the newscasters spiel out at warp speed. I only need listen for five minutes, tops, before I shut the TV off. So, this is where I’ll send my love ~ may a calming balm soothe all.
So easy to do from my living room couch; not so natural when I am taking a wrong turn on the Dallas pretzel. I consciously invoke my guardian angels, take a few deep breaths, and remind myself that harrowing situations do not last forever. My heart may have picked up a beat or two before settling back down, but I begin to imagine what it must be like to be awoken at three in the morning in Maui and told to get my family out of harms way. Is it even possible to stay calm in a fire storm of gigantic proportions?
I really don’t know how I would respond in imminent danger, especially when loved ones are involved. But what I do know is that the more we practice being a balanced, loving presence in ordinary circumstances, the more likely we are to find equilibrium within seeming chaos.
During all the outer world upheavals that are taking place at this time in our history, it is important to take excellent care of our inner world. Breathing mindfully and engaging in meditation practices are at the top of my recommendations. Connecting with nature, getting enough rest, consuming healthy food and beverages, and having quality time with others also brings peace and good health to our body, mind and soul.
From there we may just be given the opportunity to be the serene port of shelter that points the way to safety during stormy times. Please take excellent care of yourself. We are all in this together, and together we make all the difference in the world.
